Abstract: Prepn. of 3-chloro-1-propenesulphonic acid derivs. of formula Cl-CHX-CH=CH-SO2-R1 (I) (where X is H or Cl; and R1 is OH or OZ, Z being an alkali metal atom or one equiv. of an alkaline earth metal atom), comprises reacting a cpd. of formula Cl-CHX-CHCl-CH2-SO2-R1 (II) with al alkali metal hydroxide at 5-100 degrees C to give (I; R1 = OZ), and opt. reacting this with acidic cpds. to give (I; R1 = OH). (I) are useful as intermediates for pesticides, softening agents, solvents, leather fatting agents, detergents, lubricant oils, synthetic resins and lubricants. They are also useful as electrolysis additives and intermediates for such additives.

Abstract: The novel aminotricarboxylic acids are of formula (I) (where n is a whole no. 3-16) together with their salts. As complexants in aqs. and non-aqs. systems, e.g. in water-softening, in the prepn. of assistants for the textile, leather and paper industries, in the formulation, with tensides, in metal and industrial purifications, in peroxide bleaching, as anti-oxidants masking heavy metal ions in plastics and fuels, in photography, in food packaging etc. The complexant power of (I) for Ca++, Cu++, Fe+++, etc. is greater than that of EDTA.
