    Abstract: Production of auramine salts and auramine salt solutions from 4,4''-bisdimethylaminodiphenylmethane or 4,4''bisdiethylaminodiphenylmethane in the presence of sulfur and urea by reaction of the components, with or without the addition of an ammonium salt, taking up the auramine base in a solvent which is not miscible with water and extracting the auramine base by reaction with an acid in water, formamide or glycol with the formation of a salt. The auramine salts and auramine salt solutions obtained are outstandingly suitable for the production of dye liquors.

    Abstract: Polyhalocopper phthalocyanine pigments of high color strength are prepared by recrystallizing the finely divided agglomerated crude pigment in a heterogeneous aqueous organic phase at elevated temperatures by a process in which the aqueous organic phase used is a heterogeneous mixture of an aliphatic ketone having a total of 3 to 9 carbon atoms and water. The process gives the pigments in the form of spherical granules which are dust-free or have a low dust content. The pigments give deep, brilliant colorations of pure hues.

    Abstract: In a process for the purification of aqueous solutions of carboxylic acid salts, suspended and colloidally dissolved impurities are removed by mixing the solution with a water-soluble polymer of MW. between 100,000 and 10,000.000 and in an amount of 0.3 to 300 grams of polymer per kilogram of impurity. Polymers mentioned are homopolymers of acrylic acid and acrylamide and copolymers of acrylic or methacrylic acid salts, and esters, acrylonitrile, crotonic, maleic or fumaric acid, alkali metal salts of vinyl phosphoric acid, vinyl pyrrolidone, and alkali metal salts of styrene sulphonic acid. Examples describe the treatment of dipotassium terephthalate with an acrylamide-sodium vinyl sulphonate copolymer; a dipotassium salt of trans-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid with an acrylamide-acrylic acid copolymer; a dipotassium salt of isocinchomeronic acid with a copolymer of methacrylamide and a condensation product of methacrylamide, formaldehyde-diethylamine quaternised with dimethyl sulphate; and a dipotassium salt of naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid with a copolymer of acrylamide, methyl acrylate acrylic acid, vinyl pyrrolidone, sodium vinyl sulphonate, methacrylamide, and acrylonitrile. The impurities separate and are filtered off.

    Abstract: A wax emulsifiable in aqueous media and obtainable by the oxidation of thermally cracked polymers of aliphatic alpha-mono-olefines, ethylene, propylene or butylene, has an acid number of 4-80 and a melt viscosity which is lower than that of the unoxidised material. The polymers may have a molecular weight of 1,000-15,000. Prior to oxidation of the polymers, at least part of the double linkages present in the initial material is saturated by hydrogenation until the bromine number is less than 1 and the hydrogenation may be continuous using a fixed bed catalyst e.g. nickel-diatomaceous earth. Specifications 728,551 and 918,295 are referred to.

    Abstract: Molten polyolefins having a molecular weight of between 1,000 and 50,000 are oxidized with oxygen or oxygen-containing gas under increased pressure and at a temperature between 130 DEG and 250 DEG C. until 0.5 to 25 kg of oxygen has been absorbed for each 100 kg of polyolefin and the oxidation is carried out with intense agitation with an agitator output of from 1 to 15 kilowatts per 100 kg of polyolefin. Polyolefins exemplified are polyethylene, polypropylene, and a copolymer of ethylene and carbon monoxide containing between 1 and 3 carbonyl groups per 50 ethylene groups. The materials may be made by thermally degrading high molecular weight polyolefins. The products are easily emulsifiable waxes.
