    Abstract: Apparatus for the manufacture of texturized filaments of synthetic linear high molecular weight materials using hot fluids consisting of a closed first processing chamber having an inlet for the fluid, a filament inlet channel at one of said processing chamber, a filament guide channel projecting into the processing chamber from its other end, and a second duct-like processing chamber mounted at the free end of the filament guide channel and having radial slots extending in the longitudinal direction of the duct of said processing chamber, wherein said second processing chamber shows, over its lower portion, a conical or stepwise increase in its external diameter and a sudden increase in its internal diameter to from 2 to 10 times the internal diameter of the duct, the longitudinal slots extending into said enlarged region to terminate in a closed ring.

An apparatus for the continuous drying of powdery or granular materials in an H.F. field comprises a tube of insulating material mounted between H.F. electrodes and having a feeder drum of larger diameter at the feed end and means for rotating the tube and drum in a substantially horizontal position, the material passing through the tube in a constant direction. Apparatus for the continuous drying of granular or powdery material comprises a tube 1 of polyester resin and glass fibres between H.F. electrodes having a feeder drum 8 of greater diameter at one end formed substantially as a double cone, which tube and drum are rotated in a substantially horizontal position by a variable speed motor 6. The inner face of tube has baffles 10 parallel or inclined to the axis of rotation, and the feeder drum 8 has fillets or curved blades 11, the faces of the tube and drum and the baffles and fillets being lined with polytetrafluoroethylene which may be reinforced with glass fibre. The tube is mounted in bearing plates 2, 2 1 mounted on a frame 3 which is hinged at 4 to raise or lower the delivery end of the tube by a threaded spindle 5. The angular position of the electrodes relative to the axis of rotation of the tube is adjustable between 30 and 180 degrees (Fig. 2, not shown) and the distance of the electrodes from the wall of the tube is variable. The delivery end of the tube leads into a receptacle 15, a fan 14 and cyclone separator being provided.

    Abstract: The generation of tape tension, based on the capacity for elastic flow of elastomeric incompressible layers, in a tape transport apparatus employing at least one capstan in contact with supply and take-up reels of tape is accomplished by producing a higher compressive force at the point of contact between the take-up reel and the resiliently deformable peripheral portion of the capstan than at the point of contact between the supply reel and the capstan. The difference in compressive forces is brought about by an additional force which is produced by means of a drivable rotating body and is transmitted to the tape reel carriers by means of a cable which is guided over this rotating body.
