Abstract: The novel disperse anthraquinone dyes are of formula (I): (where Y is H, opt. substd. 1-10C alkyl or opt. substd. phenyl; and X is opt. substd. 1-19C alkyl). For dyeing synthetic fibre material, esp. linear polyester material, clear blue shades. In an example 1-amino-4-(2'-butyl)-amino-5-hydroxy-8-nitro-anthraquinone is reacted with 2-ethyl hexanoic acid chloride in o-dichlorobenzene to give 1(2'-ethylhexanoylamino)-4-(2'-butyl)-amino-5-hydroxy-8-nitro-ant- hraquinone.

Abstract: In a new process for the prodn. of racemic mixts. from optically active benzylamine derivs. of formula (I) (where R1 is alkyl2, aralkyl or opt. substd. aryl; and R is H, alkyl or alkoxy) the optically active (I) is treated with H2 in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst at elevated temp. in the liq. phase. Optically active cpds. (I) are useful as intermediates and reagents, e.g. in the prodn. of optically active pharmaceuticals. The new process enables unwanted isomers of (I) to be converted into racemates from which further yields of the wanted isomer can be obtd. by optical resolution. In many cases the hydrogenation can be carried out at normal pressure.

Abstract: Prodn. of ketones of formula R1COR2 (I) (where R1 is 1-17C alkyl or 7-12C aralkyl; R2 is as R1 or 5-8C cycloalkyl or aryl) comprises gas-phase decarboxylation under dehydrating conditions of R1COOH or its mixt. with R5COOH. Reaction is carried out over a new catalyst contg. 5-30 wt. % ZrO2 and/or ThO2 with the balance being anatase. (I) are useful as solvents and intermediates for dyes, plant protection agents and pharmaceuticals.
