Abstract: A phenol which is nuclear substd. by one 8-15C (cyclo) alkyl gp. is treated with a mixt. of Fe, Ni, Co and/or Zn and an alkali. Time required for discolouration of treated phenol by light, O2 or heat is increased 10-50 x. Prods. may be distilled without discolouration, and can be used as stabilisers and antioxidants for fuel oils, greases and rubbers.
