    Abstract: Gels (I) for thermotropic layers, obtained by irradiation of a mixture (I') with high-energy light. Mixture (I') contains (a) a polymer derived from (A) 60-99.9 wt% unsaturated lactams or vinyl ethers, (B) 0-20 wt% unsaturated crosslinkers, (C) 0.1-30 wt% monomers with acid or acid anhydride group(s) and (D) 0-20 wt% other comonomers, (b) radically polymerisable monomers and (c) water and/or organic solvent.
