Composition (I) comprises: (a) di- or tribasic carboxylic acid esters of formula (I); (b) nonhydroxylic ethers and esters with 18-45C; and (c) optionally alkanols of formula (II) and alkanediols of formula (III) Provided that, based on the sum of the weights of nonhydroxylic ethers, nonhydroxylic esters, alkanols, alkanediols and OR and (O)2R groups, the mixture comprises up to 85% OR groups, up to 16% (O)2R groups and up to 45% nonhydroxylic ethers and esters. Emulsifier composition containing elthoxylated alkanols. An emulsifier composition consisting of three components A, B, and C, where component A comprises a 6-14C alkoxylated alkanol with 4-12 AO units, component B 12-14C alkoxylated fat- alcohol mixture with 5-30 AO units, and component C 12-24C alkoxylated fat-alcohol mixture with 40-100 AO units, where AO = alkylene oxide. Independent claims are included for: (1) a stuffing agent for stuffing leather including one or more modified, native fatty substances and optionally synthetic stuffing agent, emulsifiers, and optionally dilution agents, especially water, and the above emulsifier composition; and (2) a method for stuffing leather and hides by treatment with aqueous liquors containing a stuffing agent and emulsifiers, where 10-90, preferably 25-75 wt.% of the stuffing agent is a relatively highly oxidized, relatively poorly sulfited neutral oil and the liquor contains 1-10, preferably 2.5-7.5 wt.% of the above emulsifier composition.

Agents for the fatliquoring of, in particular, leathers and hides tanned in the absence of chromium comprise A) at least one modified natural oil and B) at least one stabilizer L n R where R a is H or methyl, R b is methyl, ethyl or tert-butyl, R c is methyl, tert-butyl, cyclohexyl or methylcyclohexyl, R is an n-valent C 3 - to C 30 -hydrocarbon radical which is unsubstituted or substituted and/or contains hetero atoms and n is an integer from 1 to 10, the stabilizer L n R having altogether at least 20, in particular altogether at least 28, carbon atoms, and, where n is 2, -R- also being -S-, -O-, -N(H)-, -CH 2 -, -(CH 2 ) 2 -, -CH(CH 3 )-, -CH 2 ) 3 -, -CH(C 2 H 5 )- or -C(CH 3 ) 2 -. The novel fatliquoring agents are used in leather production and/or leather treatment, and leather is produced and/or treated using aqueous dispersions of these fatliquoring agents.

A process for the production of leather, wherein tanned animal hides are treated in step (A) with an aqueous liquor which comprises (a) at least one copolymer obtainable by copolymerization of (a1) at least one ethylenically unsaturated C4-C8-dicarboxylic acid or at least one derivative of an ethylenically unsaturated C4-C8-dicarboxylic acid and (a2) at least one C8-C100-α-olefin and, if appropriate, hydrolysis and/or at least partial neutralization, (b) at least one paraffin which is liquid at room temperature, (c) at least one synthetic nonionic emulsifier, the aqueous liquor being free of silicones, and furthermore silicone-free aqueous formulations and their use.
