Abstract: Aqueous polyurethane dispersions for production of strippable protective coatings are based largely on polyether-diols, optionally other diols, and monomers with isocyanate or NCO-reactive groups plus hydrophilic groups. The use of aqueous polyurethane dispersions (I) for the production of coatings suitable for use as strippable protective coatings, in which the polyurethane is based on: (a) di-isocyanates; (b) diols comprising (b1) 10-100 mol% diols with a mol. wt. of 500-5000, 70 mol% of which consists of polyether-diols and (b2) 0-90 mol% diols with a mol. wt. of 60-500; (c) other monomers with isocyanate group(s) or NCO-reactive group(s) plus hydrophilic or potentially hydrophilic groups to ensure water-dispersibility of the polyurethane; (d) optionally multi-valent compounds other than (a-c) with reactive alcoholic hydroxy, prim. or sec. amino or isocyanate groups; and (e) optionally monovalent compounds other than (a-d) with reactive groups as in (d). An independent claim is also included for strippable protective coatings obtained from (I).
