    Abstract: Cross-linked reaction products obtained by (a) reacting 1 mole of a dicarboxylic acid such as adipic acid with 0.8 to 1.5 moles of a polyalkylene-polyamine such as diethylenetriamine and/or up to 0.4 mole of an omega -aminocarboxylic acid such as W-aminocaproic acid or a lactam thereof, (b) reacting the reaction product of step (a) with 1 to 30 moles of a 1,2-alkylenimine compound such as ethyleneimine per mole of basic nitrogen in the reaction product of step (a) in the presence of a small amount of acid or alkylating agent such as sulfuric acid as catalyst and (c) cross-linking the reaction product of step (b) with 1 to 20 parts of a bifunctional compound such as epichlorohydrin per 100 parts of reaction product. Twenty-five percent solutions of the new products have a viscosity of from 300 to 4,000 centipoises at 25* C.

[Also in Division D2] Water-soluble polyalkylenimine derivatives are prepared by reaction of polyalkylenimines with bifunctional alkylating agents wherein a polyalkylenimine which in the form of a 1% by weight aqueous solution has a viscosity of 1À03 to 1À6 centistokes at 25‹ C. is reacted with 0À5 to 25% by weight of epichlorohydrin (or the equivalent molar amount of another bifunctional alkylating agent having 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the molecule) at from 20‹ to 150‹ C. to such an extent that the reaction product, in the form of a 1% by weight aqueous solution, has a viscosity of 1À6 to 20 centistokes at 25‹ C. Examples of suitable bifunctional alkylating agents are epichlorohydrin, ethylene chloride, 1,3-dichloropropane, 1,4-dichlorobutane, dichlorohydrin and 1,2-3,4-diepoxybutane. Polyethylenimine is particularly suitable as the polyalkylenimine; other suitable examples being copolymers of 40 to 80% by weight of ethylenimine and 20 to 60% by weight of 1,2-propylenimine. The resulting polyalkylenimine derivatives are useful as assistants in the paper industry.

    Abstract: Aminoalkanol sulphuric acids, i.e. sulphuric acid monoesters of aminoalkanols are prepared by allowing an aminoalkanol and sulphuric acid to flow into a vigorously stirred suspension agent which agent is immiscible with water and is kept boiling at 70 DEG to 150 DEG C., the water formed in the reaction and any water supplied with the reactants being distilled off together with part of the suspension agent, the reaction being effected at atmospheric or subatmospheric pressure.
