Abstract: Process for preparing opt. branched alkane sulphochlorides (I) by reacting alkali or NH4 salts of terminal 1-20C alkanesulphonates (II) with SOCl2 in the presence of >=1 formic acid amide and opt. inert organic solvents takes place in the presence of catalytic quantities of >=1 salt of transition metals having degree of oxidn. +2. (I) are intermediates for prepn. of the free sulphonic acids, sulphonic acid anhydrides and esters, sulphamides, sultones, sulphones, alkyl chlorides (by SO2 dissocation) and mercaptans (by reduction). Process is safe, economical and leads to high yields.

Abstract: In press. -sensitive recording paper based on microencapsulated couplers (I) and electron acceptor (II), which can be on the same or opposite sides of the sheet, (II) is a low-mol. condensate (IIa) of hydroxybenzene- or hydroxynapthalene-carboxylic acids, phenol and/or substd. phenols and HCHO, opt. in conjunction with salts (IIb) of Gp. (II) or earth metals. (IIa) pref. has an av. mol. wt. of 300-1200, and is esp. derived from (mixts.) of phenols opt. with 1-2 1-12C alkyl, Cl or Br or one Ph or (hydroxy)phenylsuphony substit., and opt. salicylic acid (III). (IIa) can be applied easily, are completely insensitive to atmos. humidity and stable even on prolonged storage in the warm. They give light-fast intense colours of high density.
