Abstract: Process for prepn. of Cl atom- and SO2Cl gp. - substd. 5 + C alkanes, by reaction of >=1 mol Cl and 1 mol SO2 for each mol alkane, takes place with recycling of 3-40 (5-20) wt. % of reaction prod. leaving reaction chamber to reactor. Raw materials are charged upwards, at gas layer velocity 2-30 m/sec., for a gas layer dwelling period of 2 - 60 secs. to a reaction chamber the longitudinal axis of which forms an angle of 1.5-30 degrees with the horizontal. Prods. can be saponified to alkali sulphonates. Recycling step reduces quantity of unreacted alkanes and over-chlorinated - or over-sulphochlorinated cpds. and prevents discolouration. Saponified products are excellent wetting agents. Heat-transfer from reaction mixt. to tubular reactor walls is improved. Process is photolytic. All right-sources radiating in visible range can be used, esp. those having high proportion of radiation at wave-length 3000-5000 angstroms.

Process is safe, economical and leads to high yields.

Abstract: Shell-and-tube heat exchanger having an inlet opening for product vapour, inlet and and outlet openings for cooling agent which is conducted in the heat exchanger (transfer) tubes, a purge stub for removing inert gases, and a discharge stub for product condensate, in which a) the shell-and-tube heat exchanger (1) is arranged vertically, b) the arrangement of the heat exchanger tubes (2) in the region of the side where the product vapour flows at first has large spacings, which are increasingly reduced in the course of the path of the main flow, and c) a plurality of purge stubs for inert gases (5) are arranged one above another opposite the inlet opening for product vapour (4) in the region of the tightest packing of the heat exchanger tubes (2).

Abstract: Process for the production of water-soluble auxiliaries for the papermaking industry by reacting (a) 1 part by weight of a polyamidoamine obtained by condensing 1 mole of a dicarboxylic acid having from 4 to 10 carbon atoms with from 0.8 to 1.4 moles of a polyalkylene polyamine having from 3 to 10 alkyleneamine units and containing up to 8 ethyleneimine units per basic nitrogen atom with (b) 0.1 to 4 parts by weight of an alpha , omega -dichloro polyalkylene oxide obtained by reacting a polyalkylene oxide having from 8 to 100 alkylene oxide units with a compound selected from the group consisting of a thionyl chloride and phosgene and then cleaving the reaction products by heating them to a temperature of from 70 DEG to 150 DEG C. in the presence of a tertiary amine as catalyst, as crosslinking agent, at a temperature above 20 DEG C. in aqueous solution or in a water-soluble organic solvent, the reaction being carried out to a point at which the viscosity of an aqueous solution containing 20% by weight of auxiliary is from 300 to 2,500 mPas.
