    Abstract: Polyepoxides are cured by polyamides prepared from tetrahydrotrcyclopentadienylenediamine with a dicarboxylic acid having 3 to 20 carbon atoms. Other primary and/or secondary amines may have been used in addition to the tetrahydrotricyclopentadienylenediamine in the preparation of the polyamide. Conventional acidic and basic curing agents and solvents may be added to the curable mixtures. Polyamides are prepared by heating to 150 DEG or 180 DEG C. and then to 260 DEG C. under nitrogen whilst distilling off water a reaction mixture consisting of tetrahydrotricyclopentadienyl enediamine-diethylenetriamine and (1) 1-octylnonane-1,9-dicarboxylic acid; (2) adipic acid; (3) dodecanedicarboxylic acid; or (4) 1,2 - bisaminomethylcyclohexane and 1-octylnonane -1,9-dicarboxylic acid.ALSO:Sheet steel and sheets of glass are laquered with a xylene/butanol solution of an aliphatic polyglycidyl ether and a polyamide from tetrahydrotricyclopentadienylenediamine and a dicarboxylic acid. The coatings are cured at room temperature or at 120 DEG C.

    Abstract: Poly-1, 2-epoxides are cured with tetrahydrocyclopentadienylenediamine of the formula or a substitution product thereof bearing C1- 4 alkyl groups. Up to 50% by weight of the tetrahydrocyclopentadienylenediamine may be replaced by a conventional curing agent in compositions containing 1 to 3 equivalents of the diamine and 1 equivalent of the polyepoxide. The curable compositions may also contain levelling agents and organic solvents and are useful as moulding, coating, encapsulating, laminating and bonding compositions.ALSO:Coatings on, for example, sheet glass and sheet metal are produced by applying lacquers comprising a polyepoxide and a tetrahydrotricyclopentadienylenediamine of the formula:- or a C1-4 alkyl substituted tetrahydrotricyclopentadienylenediamine with as optional ingredients conventional curing agents for epoxy resins organic solvents and levelling agents.

    Abstract: A curable polyepoxide composition comprises a poly-1,2-epoxide of a linear oligomer of two to four butadiene units or a linear co-oligomer of one to four butadiene units and an alkenylaromatic compound having the general formula in which R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or -CH3, -C2H5, -C3H7 or -C4H9 and R2 denotes a radical R1, -CH=CH2 or Cl, and a curing agent. The polyepoxide may be epoxidized 3 - methylhepta - 1,4,6 - triene; 3 - methylhepta - 1,3,5 - triene; 3 - methyl-hepta - 2,4,6 - triene; octa - 1,3,6 - triene; octa - 1,3,5 - triene; dodecatetraene; methylundecatetraene; dimethyldecatetraene; hexadecapentaene; methylpentadecapentaene; dimethyltetradecapentaene; trimethyltridecapentaene or mixtures thereof or 1-phenyldeca-1,4,8-triene. The curing agents may be polycarboxylic acids their anhydrides in the presence or absence of polyols or amines.ALSO:Linear oligomers of two to four butadiene units or linear co-oligomers of one to four butadiene units and an alkenylaromatic compound, such as 3 - methylhepta - 1,4,6 - triene; 3 - methylhepta - 1,3,5 - triene; 3 - methylhepta - 2,4,6 - triene; octa - 1,3,6 - triene; octa - 1,3,5 - triene; dodecatetraene; methylundecatetraene; dimethyldicatetraene; hexadecapentaene; methylpentadecapentaene; dimethyltetradecapentaene, are epoxidized by peroxy acids or b -hydroxyethylacetyl peroxide. In examples, (1) 3 - methylheptatriene, (2) 1 - phenyldeca - 1,4,8 - triene, (9) mixed isomers of dodecatriene and (10) mixed oligomers containing 4 butadiene units are epoxidized using a methylene dichloride solution of peracetic acid in the presence of anhydrous sodium carbonate to give mixtures of the corresponding epoxides. The mixtures of Examples (1) and (2) are fractionated to give (1) methylheptatriene monoxide and dioxide, and (2) 1-phenyldeca-1,4,8-triene dioxide and trioxide.

    Abstract: A process for the production of basic polyamides compatible with substances capable of being cured to plastics comprises reacting at a temperature of between 100 DEG and 350 DEG C., an o : o 1-octane and/or -nonane dicarboxylic acid which contains as a substituent an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having at least 8 carbon atoms in a continuous chain with a mixture of (a) an aliphatic polyamine, and (b) an aromatic and/or araliphatic polyamine, said polyamines having at least two primary amino groups in a molar ratio of carboxylic acid to amine of 1 : 1.1 to 1:3. Mono- and other di-carboxylic acids, e.g. acetic, benzoic, stearic, adipic, glutaric, sebacic, a -methyl-glutaric, sebacic, isophthalic and terephthalic acid may be present in the reaction mixture. Specified polyamines are ethylene, trimethylene, tetramethylene, pentamethylene, hexamethylene, decamethylene xylylene and o-, m- and p-phenylene diamine, 1 - amino - 9 - aminomethyloctadecane, 1-amino - 10 - aminomethyloctadecane, diaminocyclohexane, di-(aminomethyl) benzenes, 4 : 41-diamino - di - n - butyl ether, a - aminopyridine, polyamines of the formula H2N-(CH2)m-[NH-(CH2) m]n-NH2 where m is an integer from 2 to 6 and n is an integer from 1 to 4, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, dipropylene triamine and tripropylene tetramine. Monoamines, e.g. ethylamine, stearylamine or aniline may also be present in the reaction mixtures. The products of the invention may be used for curing polyepoxides or precondensed phenol, urea or melamine-aldehyde resins.
