Abstract: Water-dispersible polyester (I) contg. sulpho gps. is obtd. by condensing mixts. of (a) aromatic dicarboxylic acids or esters and (b) aromatic dicarboxylic acids contg. sulpho gps. with (c) diol(s) selected from ethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol with 2-20 ethylene glycol units and (d) diol(s) with sec. OH gp(s)., which is substd. by 1-6 C alkyl, phenyl or 1-3 C alkylphenyl in the 1-position to this OH gp. and has a b.pt. of >= 260 deg C. Pref. diol (c) is tetra-, penta-, hexa-, hepta- or esp. mono-, di- and/or tri-ethylene glycol. Suitable diols (d) are polypropylene and polybutylene glycols with 3-20 propylene glycol or butylene glycol-1,2 and/or -2,3 units, (poly)neopentyl and (poly)phenylglycols with 1-20 neopentyl or phenyl glycol units, end-blocked triols, 1,1-isopropylidene-bis(p-phenyloxy)-dipropanol-2 (II) and neopentyl glycol hydroxypivalate, esp. tripropylene glycol, tributylene glycol-1,2 or -2,3 and/or (II).
