    Abstract: Curable compositions comprise (a) a resinous polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated polyester, (b) styrene, (c) dichlorostyrene and optionally (d) a vinyl or allyl compound, wherein the amounts of (b), (c) and (d) are 10 to 60%, 90 to 40% and up to 10% by weight respectively, based on the weight of (b), (c) and (d). The polyester may be derived from maleic, fumaric, itaconic, mesaconic or citraconic acid, optionally together with succinic, glutaric, adipic, suberic, sebacic, azelaic, a -methyl glutaric, thiodibutyric, sulphonedibutyric, oxadibutyric, hexahydrophthalic, tetrahydrophthalic, endomethylene tetrahydrophthalic, phenylenedibutyric, phenylene diacetic, phthalic, isophthalic, terephthalic, tetrachlorophthalic, tetrachloroisophthalic, tetrachloroterephthalic or hexachloroendomethylene tetrahydrophthalic acids, and saturated or unsaturated polyhydric alcohols, e.g. alkanediols containing up to 8 carbon atoms, glycerin and trimethylol propane. The dichlorostyrene may be 2,3-, 2,4- or 2,5-dichlorostyrene or mixtures thereof. Specified vinyl and allyl compounds are vinyl aromatic hydrocarbons, vinyl heterocyclic compounds, vinyl and allyl esters, vinyl ethers, vinyl ketones, and acrylic acid and derivatives thereof. The compositions may also comprise antimony trioxide, bismuth trioxide, phosphoric acid triesters, e.g. tributyl phosphate and triisobutyl phosphate, and inhibitors, e.g. quinone, quinone monoxime, tertiary butyl pyrocatechol, hydroquinone and para-amino phenol. The compositions may be cured by copolymerization in the presence of ultra-violet light or catalysts, e.g. benzoyl peroxide, cyclohexanone peroxide, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and azo-bis-isobutyronitrile, activators and promoters, e.g. cobalt naphthenate, tertiary amines and mercaptans. They may be used in making glass-fibre-reinforced laminates, and cementing and adhesive compositions, and as fillers.
