Abstract: The production of triaryl phosphines from phosphorus halides and aryl halides in the presence of alkali metals in a Wurtz-Fittig type reaction. In order to carry out this reaction without risk, a dispersion of an alkali metal in an organic solvent is used which has been prepared with the addition of an aryl halide or a triaryl phosphine.

The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of steam and/or an inert gas.
