Abstract: Production of molded thermoplastic foam articles, having a density reduced by 5-50% in comparison to unfoamed thermoplastic with a cell size of 5-100 mu m, comprises extrusion or injection molding of the thermoplastic melt with an inert inorganic gas in supercritical state whereby the melt contains 0.001-1 wt.% of a silicone oil or a cross-linked rubber having a particle size of less than 1.0 mu m.
