Abstract: 1. A process for the preparation of an o-acylaminomethylbenzyl halide of the formula (I) see diagramm : EP0087676,P5,F3 where X is halogen and R**1 is an aliphatic or aromatic radical, wherein an o-aminomethylbenzyl alkyl ether of the formula (II) see diagramm : EP0087676,P5,F4 where R**2 is alkyl, is reacted with an acylating agent to give the corresponding acylaminomethylbenzyl alkyl ether, and the latter is reacted with an aqueous hydrohalic acid to give the halide (I).
