Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recording medium having a high recording density by executing square wave recording in such a manner that the single phase deviating less than 5 deg. from the numerical value at which the phase of Fourier transform at the same wavelength is previously obtd. is measured in the case the square wave recording is executed. SOLUTION: The square wave signals having a frequency of 96kHz are recorded on a tape. These signals are then scanned by a digitizer read by a reading head. The pulses are obtd. by averaging the read pulses at the center. The average values of the 126 pulses in total number is obtd. In such a case, the phase response is (for example, about 5MHz) inclination 0 at the average frequency. The distinct comparison of different curves is thereby made possible.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a process for producing denatured chromium dioxide which exhibits a further narrow magnetic power distribution and coercive force distribution with respect to the prior art and, consequently, exhibits the coercive force of at least 40kA/m and thermal stability improved in magnetization as well. CONSTITUTION: This magnetic recording medium consists of a nonmagnetic substrate and at least one layer of magnetic layers which contain acicular CrO2 as the magnetic powder distributed uniformly in a polymer binder. The magnetic chromium dioxide is denatured by iron and tellurium or antimony and has the coercive force of at least 40kA/m, saturation magnetization of at least 85nTm /g and a specific surface area(SSA) of at least 25m /g. The decrease in the dependence of 50% in residual induction on temp. is resulted only at >=95 deg.C.
