Abstract: A method of curing a coating composition and a method of forming a cured coating on an automobile component are provided. The coating composition comprises a radical polymerizable compound and an organoborane-amine complex having an organoborane initiator, an amine blocking agent, and water. The method of curing the coating composition comprises the steps of combining the organoborane-amine complex, the radical polymerizable compound, and water to form the coating composition. Carbon dioxide is introduced into the coating composition or into a composition including at least one of the organoborane-amine complex, the radical polymerizable compound, and water prior to forming the coating composition. Carbonic acid is formed in situ within the coating composition through reaction of the water and carbon dioxide. The organoborane-amine complex is decomplexed with the carbonic acid thereby separating the organoborane initiator and the amine blocking agent. The radical polymerizable compound is polymerized using the organoborane initiator in the presence of oxygen.

Abstract: Un procedimiento de curado de una composición de revestimiento que comprende un compuesto polimerizablepor radicales y un complejo de organoborano-amina que tiene un iniciador de organoborano como un agente debloqueo de amina, y agua, comprendiendo dicho procedimiento las etapas de: A. combinar el complejo de organoborano-amina, el compuesto polimerizable por radicales y el agua para formarla composición de revestimiento; B. introducir dióxido de carbono en la composición de revestimiento o en una composición que incluye al menosuno del complejo de organoborano-amina, el compuesto polimerizable por radicales y el agua antes de formar lacomposición de revestimiento, en el que el dióxido de carbono está presente en la composición de revestimientoen una proporción molar de al menos 500:1 con el agente de bloqueo de amina del complejo de organoboranoaminapara formar de esta manera ácido carbónico in situ en una proporción molar de al menos 1:1 del ácidocarbónico y el agente de bloqueo de amina del complejo de organoborano-amina; C. descomplejar el complejo de organoborano-amina con el ácido carbónico separando de esta manera eliniciador de organoborano y el agente de bloqueo de amina; y D. polimerizar el compuesto polimerizable por radicales usando el iniciador de organoborano en presencia deoxígeno.
