Abstract: A method for blocking subterranean formations in the extraction of fossil oil and/or gas is proposed, wherein water-absorbent particles are introduced into porous and fluid-conducting rock formations in a first step, said particles being water-swellable, crosslinked and water-insoluble polymers, and wherein the particles in the water-conducting rock formation ultimately suppress the fluid flow through the rock layers by absorption of water. Said method is characterized in that the absorbent particles are a superabsorbent polymer having anionic and/or cationic properties and a time-delayed swelling effect. Said method, which can also be performed in saline formation water, has the characteristic that the swelling of the superabsorbers used begins after five minutes at the earliest, and the superabsorbers are accessible through four proposed process variants and any combinations thereof. Said method, which does not require a carrier fluid, has the characteristics of simplicity and in particular the controllable delay in the swelling effect under the specific conditions of subterranean rock formations.

Abstract: Se propone un método para bloquear formaciones subterráneas en la extracción de aceite fósil y/o gas, en donde las partículas absorbentes de agua se introducen en formaciones rocosas conductoras de fluido y porosas en un primer paso, dichas partículas son polímeros que se expanden con agua, entrelazados e insolubles en agua, y en donde las partículas en la formación rocosa conductora de agua por último suprime el flujo de fluido a través de las capas rocosas por absorción de agua; dicho método se determina porque las partículas absorbentes son un polímero superabsorbente que tiene propiedades aniónicas y/o catiónicas y un efecto de expansión de acción retardada; dicho método, que también puede realizarse en agua de formación salina, tiene la característica de que la expansión de los superabsorbentes utilizados comienza después de cinco minutos a más tardar, y los superabsorbentes son accesibles a través de cuatro variantes del proceso propuestas y cualesquiera combinaciones de los mismos; dicho método, que no requiere un fluido portador, tiene la característica de simplicidad y en particular el retardo controlable en el efecto de expansión bajo las condiciones específicas de formaciones rocosas subterráneas.

Abstract: A process is proposed for blocking underground formations in the extraction of fossil oil and/or gas, a first step involving introducing water-absorbing particles into liquid-bearing and porous rock formations, said particles being water-swellable, crosslinked and water-insoluble polymers, said particles in the water-bearing rock formation finally preventing liquid flow through the rock layers by water absorption. This process is characterized in that the absorbing particles comprise a superabsorbent polymer with anionic and/or cationic properties and a retarded swelling action. This process, which can also be carried out in saline formation waters, is notable in that the swelling of the superabsorbents used begins no earlier than after five minutes and in that the superabsorbents are obtainable by four proposed process variants and any combination thereof. This process, which does not need a carrier liquid, is notable for its simplicity and especially the controllable retardation of the swelling action under the specific conditions of underground rock formations.
