Abstract: La invención se refiere a un método para producir sales del ácido acrilamido-2-metilpropan sulfónico (A), que consiste en los siguientes pasos: a) producir una solución de una sal contaminada del ácido acrilamido-2-metilpropan sulfónico (A) en un solvente orgánico libre de agua (L) utilizando al menos un componente básico (8) seleccionado del grupo que consiste en óxidos de metales alcalinos, óxidos de metales alcalinotérreos, hidróxidos alcalinos, hidróxidos de metales alcalinotérreos y aminas de fórmula general (I) NRaRbRC (I), en donde los grupos Ra, Rb y Rc, independientes entre sí, significan lo siguiente: hidrógeno, alquilo de C1-C4, hidroxialquilo de C1-C4 o alcoxi de C1-C4, en donde la relación molar del compuesto (A) al compuesto básico (B) es preferentemente 1:1 a 1:3; b) eliminar, como una opción, parcialmente el solvente orgánico (L) a una presión en el intervalo de 0.001 a 2 bares (abs); c) recuperar la sal disuelta del compuesto (A) por cristalización o precipitación, cambiando la temperatura y/o la presión y/o la concentración de la sal en la solución; d) como una opción secar la sal purificada del ácido acrilamido-2-metilpropan sulfónico (A). Dicho método de acuerdo con la invención permite obtener sales pobre en subproductos y especialmente apropiadas para la polimerización.
