Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for converting an aromatic hydrocarbon which comprises aromatic sulfur compounds, or a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons which comprises aromatic sulfur compounds, if appropriate in the presence of hydrogen, wherein, in a first step, aromatic sulfur compounds are removed (step a), and, in a second step, the aromatic hydrocarbon or the mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons is hydrogenated in the presence of a supported ruthenium catalyst in the presence of hydrogen (step b). Abstract: Método para la conversión de un hidrocarburo aromático, o de una mezcla de hidrocarburos aromáticos, que contiene compuestos aromáticos sulfurados, en cuyo caso en un primer paso opcionalmente en presencia de hidrógeno, se disminuye el contenido de compuestos aromáticos sulfurados empleando un agente desulfurante que contiene cobre y cinc en una proporción atómica de 1 : 0,3 a 1 : 10 (paso a), y en un segundo paso el hidrocarburo aromático, o la mezcla de los hidrocarburos aromáticos, se hidrogena en presencia de un catalizador de rutenio soportado y en presencia de hidrógeno (paso b).
