Abstract: A highly active water gas shift catalyst, preparation process and use thereof are provided. The catalyst comprises at least one noble metal in an amount of from 0.001 to 1.10% by weight, based on the total weight of the catalyst, at least one alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal and at least one dopant selected from the group of Fe, Cr, Cu, Zn and mixtures thereof on a support material. The catalyst can be used to convert carbon monoxide and water into carbon dioxide and hydrogen in a wide temperature range.
