Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for producing a shaped catalyst body comprising silver applied to an alumina support, which comprises providing an alumina support, with a defined pore structure and then applying a defined amount of an impregnation solution comprising silver to the alumina support. Furthermore, the present invention is directed to a shaped catalyst body comprising silver applied to an alumina support obtained or obtainable according to the process of the present invention and its use as catalyst for preparing ethylene oxide by gas-phase oxidation of ethylene by means of oxygen.
