Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing fluorinated m-nitrobenzoyl chlorides IIA where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each hydrogen, halogen, cyano, nitro, C1-C6-alkyl, C1-C6-haloalkyl, C1-C6-alkoxy or C1-C6-haloalkoxy, and at least one of the R1 to R4 radicals is fluorine, by reacting fluorinated m-nitrobenzoic acids with chlorinating agents, the reaction taking place in the presence of catalytic amounts of a phosphine derivative.
