Abstract:
A dialysis system includes a dialysis instrument; a disposable cassette, the cassette including a rigid portion defining at least one pumping chamber, a pouch fitted over the rigid portion, the pouch including at least one flexible sheet sealed so as to provide a sealed environment inside the pouch; and wherein the instrument is configured to press the at least one flexible sheet against the pumping chamber to seal the pumping chamber for operation.
Abstract:
A dialysis fluid flow control system includes a pumping cassette interface including a pump area operable with a pump chamber of a disposable cassette; the cassette interface further including a volumetric reference chamber used in a volumetric control of a dialysis fluid pumped pneumatically into and out of the pump chamber of the disposable cassette; a heater connected operably to the cassette interface; and a controller connected operably to the heater so as to cause the heater to heat at least a portion of the cassette interface to a desired temperature.
Abstract:
A dialysis system includes a dialysis instrument; a disposable item configured to hold a dialysis fluid and including an at least substantially opaque portion and an at least substantially clear portion; at least one non-invasive temperature sensor mounted to the dialysis instrument so as to be pointed selectively at the at least substantially clear portion and the at least substantially opaque portion; and a processor configured to calculate a temperature of the dialysis fluid within the disposable item using (i) a first temperature measurement from the at least one sensor while pointed at the at least substantially opaque portion, and (ii) a second temperature measurement from the at least one sensor pointed at the at least substantially clear portion.
Abstract:
A dialysis system includes at least one dialysis fluid pump actuator, a disposable cassette including at least one pump chamber operable with the at least one pump actuator, the disposable cassette further including a plurality of fluid ports configured to be connected fluidly to a plurality of fluid containers, and a processor programmed to cause the at least one pump actuator to operate the at least one pumping chamber to selectively move effluent dialysis fluid to a drain container or to a sample container.
Abstract:
A dialysis system includes a dialysis instrument; a disposable cassette operable with the dialysis instrument; a dual lumen patient line including dual lumens, the dual lumen patient line connected to the disposable cassette; and a priming sequence in which ends of the dual lumens are connected together, a first pump chamber of the disposable cassette pumps fluid through the dual lumens until fluid reaches a second pump chamber of the disposable cassette.
Abstract:
A medical fluid flow control system includes an interface including a first pump area, the first pump area of the interface including a pneumatic actuator port and a gasket seal port; and a membrane gasket including a second pump area for mating with the first pump area, the second pump area including a blind section which covers the pneumatic actuator port when the gasket is mated with the interface, the second pump area further including an aperture, the aperture sized and positioned to seal around the gasket seal port, allowing a negative pressure to be applied through the gasket seal port to a flexible sheet of a pumping cassette.
Abstract:
A dialysis system includes a dialysis instrument including at least one pump actuator; a disposable cassette operable with the at least one pump actuator, a plurality of supply lines connected to the disposable cassette, each supply line including a supply line connector and a supply line tip protector; a plurality of dialysis fluid containers, the dialysis fluid containers each including a solution line having a solution line connector and a solution line tip protector; and an auto-connection mechanism including a solution line connector holder, a supply line connector holder, one of the holders fixed, the other of the holders moveable, and a moveable tip protector remover.
Abstract:
A medical instrument includes a sound card or an internal capability for generating sounds from a digital music or sound file. The medical instrument is one which generates unwanted noise and is constantly in the presence of a patient or an operator, and may be in a home, a clinic, a laboratory, or other intimate setting. For instance, a patient may be typically connected for hours to a hemodialysis machine that has a noisy pump. A blood-plasma volunteer may be hooked to a noisy blood separation machine for a period of time. A laboratory technician may work in close proximity to a sample preparation machine that constantly gurgles and whirrs. In each instance, a sound card and a speaker can generate previously-recorded masking noises that make the presence and operation of the machine more tolerable.
Abstract:
A dialysis system includes: (i) a dialysate pump; (ii) a patient line having a connector configured to be attached to a peritoneal patient part; (iii) an extracorporeal circuit; (iv) a blood pump in fluid communication with the extracorporeal circuit; (v) a blood filter in fluid communication with the extracorporeal circuit; and (vi) a control unit configured and arranged to selectively perform a therapy which (a) the blood pump is deactivated and the dialysate pump is caused to pump dialysate through the patient line or (b) the blood pump is activated to pump blood to the blood filter and the dialysate pump is caused to pump dialysate to the filter/extracorporeal circuit and/or remove fluid from the filter.
