Abstract: A port assembly (106) includes a housing (108) with an opening (110) and a bore (112) therethrough, a slit septum (114) disposed in the bore to control access through the opening, a base (116) joined to the housing and having a membrane (118) attached thereto, a perforator (120) having a first end (122) abutting the slit septum and a second end (124) aligned with the membrane, and a resilient member (126) disposed between the perforator and the base. The port assembly may be used in a fluid container (100) that includes a receptacle (102) for retaining a fluid, and at least one conduit (104) in communication with the receptacle. Abstract: A valve assembly (10) for permitting fluid flow in a first direction and for preventing fluid flow in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The valve assembly includes an upper housing (12), a lower housing (14) coupled to the upper housing to form a generally axially extending housing assembly, and a valve seating section (26) defined within an inner peripheral portion of the lower housing. The valve seating section includes an axially extending inner peripheral surface (38) and a transversely extending surface (44) substantially normal to the axially extending inner peripheral surface. A valve member (16) is seated within the valve seating section of said lower housing (14). The valve member (16) includes a flange (30) that extends from the valve member in a transverse direction and defines an axially oriented outer peripheral surface thereof (44). The valve member (16) is retained within the valve seating section (26) of the lower housing prior to assembly to the upper housing (12) by the axially extending inner peripheral surface (38) of the valve seating section (26) transversely compressing the axially oriented outer peripheral surface of the flange (30) to form a press-fit therebetween. Further, the valve member also includes a lower transverse surface (42) which is axially separated from the transversely extending surface of the valve seating section (44), in which an air space (40) is defined between these two transverse surfaces.

Abstract: A needless connector is provided which utilizes a resealable preslit septum valve. The valve is resiliently restrained relative to a housing with the valve and housing configured to accept a standard male luer lock having a luer tip which penetrates the valve through the opening to extend within the housing and a luer locking flange of the luer lock extending about the housing. The valve includes a disk shaped upper portion covering the opening, a lower portion spaced from the housing and extending downward from the disk shaped portion into a passageway defined by the housing, and an annular skirt to attach the septum to the housing. The connector exhibits satisfactory leak pressure after multiple connections and disconnects to the luer lock fitting and long periods of indwell of the luer tip.

Abstract: A flow adjusting tube clamp (14) is used with a chamber (26) in a solution administration device (10). The tube clamp (14) is pivotally mounted to the cap (28) at a second pivot element (36). The tube clamp (14) includes first and second elongated tube passages (54, 56) that overly the cap inlet ports (44, 46) as the clamp is pivoted. The tube passages (54, 56) define varying cross-sectional open areas therethrough. The passages (54, 56) are arcuate so that they continuously overly the inlet ports (44, 46) as the clamp is pivoted. The inlet ports (44, 46) are configured to receive flexible tube portions (20a, 20b) that traverse through the tube passages in the clamp. Each tube passage (54, 56) includes at least one open area (66) and at least one occluding portion (56) to establish and terminate flow therethrough. The clamp (14) is pivotable from a prime position to an intermittent flow position and from an intermittent flow position to a continuous flow position, to effect varying flow conditions.
