A system (10), computer readable medium (44b) and method for managing a procedure in a blood component collection facility is disclosed. The system comprises a blood component donor identifier corresponding to a blood component donor, an operator identifier corresponding to a blood component collection instrument operator, a blood component collection instrument (20a), a system computer and an interface. The collection instrument (20a) collects a blood component from the blood component donor. The system computer (44b) is operably connected to the blood component collection instrument and runs a blood component collection application defining at least one step of a blood component collection process. The interface (44b) has a reader and is operably connected to the system computer (44b). The interface and reader receives the blood component donor identifier and the operator identifier and transmits the operator identifier to the system computer (44b) proximate the performance of at least one step of the blood component collection process.

A system and method for treating a biological fluid unit wherein the system ensures proper execution of the treatment by coordinating cooperation among a plurality of components operably connected to the system. The system include s a processor, a memory storing a blood product treatment module and being operably connected to the processor, at least one blood product treatment instrument for communicating information related to blood product treatment to the processor and memory over a communications network for treating a blood product, and, an interface having means for entering information, means for displaying information, and means for communicating with the processor and memory, the information being related to the blood product treatment. The processor, the memory, and the interface are for at least one of monitoring, managing, reporting, and administering the blood product treatment.
