Abstract:
A formed, filled, and sealed container (100), access port (200, 300, 400, 500) and method for establishing fluid flow from the container to an administrative set is provided. The container (100) is collapsible and has an inlet (120) and an outlet (130). A hollow port (160) is sealed to the container and a perforator inside the port pierces and becomes embedded in the container. Solution in the container is withdrawn into the port. A line (140) attached to the port and an administrative set further establishes flow between the container and the administration set. The port may be operated with a single-hand to establish fluid flow from the container to the administrative set. After the perforator is embedded in the container,a lock on the port prevents the perforator from removal from the container. Activation of the lock produces an audible and/or visible notification.
Abstract:
A peritoneal dialysis solution buffered with L-histidine to a pH of at least 6.5. An apparatus and method for utilizing the solution is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method and device for stabilizing and storing bicarbonate solutions is provided. In an embodiment, a device is provided having a container and carbon-dioxide generating substances that include a solid material which upon contact with water generates carbon-dioxide gas. The device may be packaged together with the bicarbonate or in a separate overpouch. The present invention also provides a method for the stabilization of bicarbonate solutions utilizing a means that generates high pressure carbon dioxide.
Abstract:
A multichambered container comprising: a first sidewall (44) and an opposing second sidewall (46); a peripheral seal (16) sealing the sidewalls along a common peripheral edge (14); a peelable seal (26) connecting the first sidewall and the second sidewall to form chambers (22,24) in the container; and the peelable seal having a serrated portion (42), the serrated portion not in contact with the peripheral seal.
Abstract:
A port (400) for establishing fluid flow from a container to an administration set is described. The port comprises: a valve (402) having a shaft (410) wherein the valve seals to the container; a perforator (404) in the shaft of the valve; a beam (436) on the perforator, the beam having an arm (442) provided with a catch (438); a latch (416) on the valve that mates with the catch to lock the perforator in an activated position; and a tamper proof tab (444) removably attached to the arm to lock the perforator in a standby position to prevent unintended activation.
