Abstract:
A clear, autoclavable, blow-moldable plastic formulation for medical and other uses comprises a two, or optionally three, component system including (1) a polyolefin consisting of propylene units as a first component, (2) a block copolymer having thermoplastic rubber characteristics with a central block of ethylenebutylene copolymer and terminal blocks of polystyrene, and (3) an optional third ingredient comprising a softening agent of polyethylene or poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate), which is particularly desirably used if the thermoplastic rubber copolymer has a molecular weight of more than 70,000. The formulation is essentially free of liquid plasticizers.

Abstract:
Films suitable for packaging usage contain blends of ethylene-based copolymers or elastomers with polypropylene and polyethylene, and can have two to five layers, wherein at least one layer (14) is a blend of high density polyethylene with an ethylene-based copolymer or an elastomer, and another layer (12) is polypropylene blended with an ethylene-based copolymer or an elastomer. Additional polypropylene-based layers can be adhered to the aforesaid layers (12, 14). A flexible pouch-type container e.g. for medical fluids can be made from two confronting pieces of film by forming heat seals (18) around their peripheries.
Abstract:
Polymer blends are used in making multiple layer films suitable e.g. for packaging. In some layers of the films an elastomer or ethylene-based copolymer is blended with polypropylene, and in some layers, with polyethylene; typical films have two to five layers, in multilayer films, at least one layer (14) is a blend of polyethylene, preferably high density polyethylene, with elastomer and/or ethylene-based copolymers, and another layer (12) is polypropylene blended with elastomers and/or ethylene-based copolymers. A two layer film has two layers, one layer (12) having polypropylene and polyethylene, preferably high density polyethylene blended together. Such films can be used to fabricate packaging bags or pouches by forming heat seals (18) between confronting pieces of film; such bags or pouches are retort sterilisable and suit the packaging of medical fluids.
Abstract:
CONNECTION OF POLYVINYL CHLORIDE TO ESSENTIALLY POLYOLEFIN MATERIALS A connector (18) is provided capable of simultaneous sealing with improved strength to both polyvinyl chloride plastics and essentially polyolefin plastics. The formulation comprises certain block copolymers admixed with a small amount of polypropylene and optionally (ethylene-vinyl acetate).
