    Abstract: The invention relates to the conditioning and use of ion exchange resins for the production of bisphenols. The invention, in particular, relates to the conditioning of monodispersed cationic and anionic exchangers and the use thereof as catalysts, in particular, as catalysts for condensation reactions. The conditioning is characterised, in particular, in that a) water-wet mono-dispersed ion exchange resin is suspended in demineralised water, b) the mono-dispersed ion exchange resin is subjected to a discontinuous or continuous wash, with acid-free demineralised water, until a constant conductivity is achieved, c) after the last wash, the demineralised water is let off and the mono-dispersed ion exchange resin mixed with the acid-free OH-component, d) the resulting mixture is dried, in a continuously operated recycling apparatus, fitted with a distillation unit and e) finally, the suspension of mono-dispersed ion exchange resin and OH-component is transferred to a reaction flask.

    Abstract: Use of a mono-dispersal ion-exchanger, preferably an anionic-exchanger, to render sugar juice colorless, is new. Use of a mono-dispersal ion-exchanger, preferably an anionic-exchanger, to render sugar juice colorless .A mono-dispersal ion-exchange agent is operated as a micro-porous or gel-like or macro-porous pearl polymer. The mono-dispersal anion-exchanger is functionalized by primary or tertiary amino-groups, or quarter amino-groups or a mixture. The mono-dispersal anion exchanger consists of a networked polymer of simple ethyl unsaturated monomers. An Independent claim is also included for a process to render sugar juice colorless by using a mono-dispersal anion-exchange which is flushed into a heated glass filter tube at between 20 and 100 degrees C. The colored aqueous sugar solution is allowed to flow over the adsorbent resin bed from top to bottom or vice versa and rains from the bed with fully desalinated water, followed by regeneration of the resin.

    Abstract: Monodisperse gel-type cation exchangers are produced by polymerizing monodisperse microencapsulated droplets of monomer mixtures comprising a specified amount of styrene, divinylbenzene and radical initiator, and sulfonating the product. Production of monodisperse gel-type cation exchangers comprises: (a) polymerizing monodisperse microencapsulated droplets of a monomer mixture 1 (MM1: 90.5-97.99 wt.% styrene, 2-7 wt.% divinylbenzene and 0.01-2.5 wt.% radical initiator) in aqueous suspension until the conversion is 76-100%; (b) adding a monomer mixture 2 (MM2: 70.5-95.99 wt.% styrene, 4-15 wt.% divinylbenzene, 0-12 wt.% of a third comonomer and 0.01-2.5 wt.% radical initiator) such that 50-100 wt.% of MM2 is added under polymerization conditions in which the radical initiator of MM2 is active; and (c) sulfonating the product. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a cation exchanger in H form obtainable by the above process; (2) a cation exchanger obtained by loading the cation exchanger of (1) with a 10-60 wt.% sodium hydroxide solution.
