Abstract:
THIS INVENTION RELATES TO HIGH SHRINKAGE THREADS, YARN AND FIBERS FROM ACRYLONITRILE POLYMERS OF COPOLYMERS CONTAINING AT LEAST 50% BY WEIGHT OF POLYMERIZED ACRYLONITRILE AND MIXTURES THEREOF, WHEREIN THE THREAD OR YARN PRODUCED BY THE DRY SPINNING PROCESS IS EXPOSED TO ELEVATED TEMPERATURES IN THE PRESENCE OF STEAM AND IS THEN STRETCHED AND DRIED. THE SPUN THREAD OR YARN OBTAINED BY THE DRY SPINNING PROCESS MAY BE BE CONTACTED WITH SATURATED STEAM UNDER PRESSURE
Abstract:
Polymer mixtures with high affinity for acid dyes consisting essentially of at least 60 percent by weight of an acrylonitrile polymer and at most 40 percent by weight of a cyclic imide copolymer, the imide nitrogen being substituted by an aliphatic or aromatic radical containing another tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom.

[Also in Division C3] A conjugate filament consists of two components disposed in side-by-side relationship one component consisting of a homopolymer of acrylonitrile or a copolymer of acrylonitrile with 1 to 10% by weight of a comonomer which does not contain any ionizable groups and the other component consisting of a copolymer of acrylonitrile containing at least 70% by weight acrylonitrile in combination with other polymerizable unsaturated compounds, using 1 to 20% by weight of a copolymerizable hydrazide sulphobetaine of the formula wherein X represents a group A, A-NH- or and A represents an aliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic radical having an unsaturated copolymerizable group, R represents an alkylene radical and R 1 and R 11 which may be the same or different represent C 1 to C 5 -alkyl radicals which together with the nitrogen atom may form a heterocyclic ring system. The unsaturated copolymerizable group of the radical A may be the methacrylic acid group. The copolymer of acrylonitrile may have a relative viscosity (# rel.) within the range 1À7 to 2À7 as measured at 20‹ C. in dimethyl formamide at a concentration of 0À5 g./100 ml. The sulphobetaine content of the copolymer component of the conjugate filaments may be 5 to 10% by weight. The conjugate filaments produced may be stretched, e.g. at a stretch ratio of 4 : 1, and at a temperature of about 100‹ C. They may then be heat-set at a temperature within the range of 70‹ to 150‹ C. The unsaturated hydrazide sulphobetaines used in the examples are In the example the copolymer of which the components of the conjugate filaments are composed are separately dissolved in dimethyl formamide and the resulting spinning solutions simultaneously extruded through each extrusion orifice of a spinneret into a gaseous evaporative medium as in normal dry spinning.
Abstract:
The invention relates to hygroscopic filaments and fibres of synthetic high polymers. The improved hygroscopicity compared with known synthetic fibres is due to the fact, that in a conventional dry-spun process a liquid is added to the spinning solvent which liquid has a higher boiling point than the spinning solvent used, which liquid is readily miscible both with the spinning solvent and water and which represents a non-solvent for the polymer to be spun.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a spontaneously crimping composite fibre of acrylonitrile polymers in which one of the fibre-forming component has a content of copolymerized esters up to 6% by weight and another fibre-forming component a content of copolymerized esters which is from 2 to 6% by weight higher whereby at least one of the fibre-forming components contains as copolymerized ester at least 2% by weight of isobutene-diacetate and the total quantity of the copolymerized esters in one fibre-forming component does not exceed 12% by weight.
