    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the simultaneous stretch-texturing of synthetic, at least partly thermoplastic filaments or yarns using false twisters, more especially friction false twisters wherein the ratio S2/S1 between the tractive or tensile forces S1, acting on the filament before the false twister, and S2, acting on the filament after the false twister, is adjusted to from 1.0 to 1.4 by adapting the ratio between the rotational speed of the false twister and the rate of travel of the filament or yarn, and the denier-related twisting of the yarn is from 5 to 50% higher than the level of twisting which is normally applied in conventional false-twist texturing processes using a spindle and which can be calculated on the basis of the Heberlein formula. Moreover, the invention relates to a yarn produced by the afore-described process.

Cross-linked polyurethane fibres are prepared by reacting a substantially linear polyhydroxyl compound of OH number 35 to 120 with a stoichiometric excess of a diisocyanate to form an isocyanate group-terminated prepolymer, reacting this prepolymer in a polar organic solvent at - 10‹ to 100‹ C. with 80 to 130% based on the NCO groups of a chain lengthening agent having a M.W. below 500 together with up to 50 mol per cent of a CO-chain lengthening agent which contains at least one tertiary nitrogen atom, so as to form a polyurethane solution containing at least 100 milli-equivalents of tertiary nitrogen per kilogram of elastomer, adding to this polyurethane solution an equivalent or less than equivalent quantity of a bis- or polyfunctional alkylating agent, forming the solution into fibres and allowing the product to cure. The polyhydroxyl compound may be a polyester, polyesteramide, polyether, polythioether or polyacetal whilst the diisocyanate may be aliphatic or aromatic, especially diphenylmethane-4,4 1 -diisocyanate, the isomeric toluylene diisocyanates and hexamethylene diisocyanate. Suitable chain-lengthening agents are water, glycols, aminoalcohols, diamines, dihydrazides or hydrazine. The co-chain lengthening agents may be monomeric or polymeric, those exemplified being N,N 1 -bis-#-hydroxyethyl piperazine; N,N 1 -bis- (γ-aminopropyl)- N,N 1 - dimethylethylenediamine; bis - (# - hydroxypropyl1)-methyl amine; a polymer prepared by self-condensation of bis-(#-hydroxypropyl)-methylamine; a polymer prepared by self-condensation of N - cyclohexyldiethanolamine; and a polymer prepared by reacting 1,6- hexane diol with N-butyl-diethanolamine. Preferred bis- or polyfunctional alkylating agents are organic halogen compounds especially 4,4 1 - bis - (chloromethyl) - diphenyl ether; 1,3 - dimethyl - 4,6 - di - (chloromethyl) - benzene and p-xylylene dichloride. The solvents used may be dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, dimethylsulphoxide or dimethoxydimethylacet. amide, if desired in admixture with up to about 20% by weight of other solvents such as dioxane, tetrahydrofuran or chlorobenzene. Heattreatment of the fibres at 50-150‹ C. allows the quaternating reaction between the bis- or polyfunctional alkylating agents and tertiary nitrogen atoms of the polyurethane chains to take place.

    Abstract: Pre-polymer is made by reacting a linear polyhydroxyl compound (OH value 35 - 120) with up to 300% excess of a di-isocyanate. This is reacted with a mixture of a conventional low m.w. chain extender (equivalent to 80 - 130% of the NCO groups) and the equivalent of 2 - 50% of the NCO groups of a bifunctional organic compound containing one or more sulphonic acid or disulphon-imide groups or their salts with alkali metals, ammonium or trialkylammonium:- -SO3M or -SO2-N(M)-SO2- an ammonium or trialkylammonium group, to give a polyurethane of the type:- -CO-NH-Y-NH-CO-X1-R-X2-NH-CO-Y-NH-CO-.

A process for the production of a fast dyed, elastic filament made from a high molecular weight, segmented polyurethane comprises adding an acid or basic dyestuff to a solution of a segmented polyurethane containing acid or basic groups, especially tertiary amino and/or disulphonic acid or disulphimide groups, in an organic solvent, mixing the solution with the dyestuff and subsequently spinning said solution to form the fast dyed filament. The dyestuff may be added to the solution in a proportion of 0À1 to 10% by weight, especially 0À3 to 6%, based on the fibre forming polymer. Specified organic solvents include dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide and dimethyl sulphoxide. Examples are given in which the spinning solution is spun by a dry spinning method to form the dyed filaments.
