Light stable polyurethane coatings with a considerably increased softening range and melting points coupled with improved resistance to perchlorethylene is obtained by using a chain extender comprising at least 80 mol % 1,4-diamino cyclohexane with a cis/transisomer ratio of from 10/90 to 60/40.
LINEAR SEGMENTED POLYURETHANE ELASTOMERS OBTAINED BY REACTION OF NCO-PREPOLYMERS WITH CHAIN EXTENDING AGENTS IN POLAR ORGANIC SOLVENTS, AT LEAST 55 MOL PERCENT OF SAID CHAIN EXTENDING AGENTS BEING A COMPOND OF THE FORMULA
Abstract:
Polyurethane coated textile sheets are disclosed and a reversal process for their preparation, wherein the textile sheets are coated by means of a top coat solution with a polymer mixture comprising I. 50 TO 90% BY WEIGHT, BASED ON THE TOTAL POLYMER, OF A SUBSTANTIALLY LINEAR POLYURETHANE WHICH IS SUBSTANTIALLY FREE OF REACTIVE END GROUPS AND WHICH HAS BEEN PREPARED BY A PROCESS WHICH COMPRISES REACTING AN ORGANIC DIHYROXYL COMPOUND OF MOLECULAR WEIGHT 500 TO 4000 AND AN ORGANIC DIOL OF MOLECULAR WEIGHT 60 TO 450 WITH AN AROMATIC DIISOCYANATE, II. 0 TO 50% BY WEIGHT OF A VINYL COPOLYMER, AND III. 1 TO 50% BY WEIGHT OF A DIENE GRAFT COPOLYMER, SAID POLYMER MIXTURE HAVING BEEN APPLIED TO A RELEASE SUBSTRATE PRIOR TO SAID COATING PROCESS.
Abstract:
Pre-polymer is made by reacting a linear polyhydroxyl compound (OH value 35 - 120) with up to 300% excess of a di-isocyanate. This is reacted with a mixture of a conventional low m.w. chain extender (equivalent to 80 - 130% of the NCO groups) and the equivalent of 2 - 50% of the NCO groups of a bifunctional organic compound containing one or more sulphonic acid or disulphon-imide groups or their salts with alkali metals, ammonium or trialkylammonium:- -SO3M or -SO2-N(M)-SO2- an ammonium or trialkylammonium group, to give a polyurethane of the type:- -CO-NH-Y-NH-CO-X1-R-X2-NH-CO-Y-NH-CO-.
Abstract:
Polyurethane elastomers with improved dyeing properties and containing 20-1000 milliequivalents of tertiary nitrogen per kg. are made by reacting a linear dihydroxy compound of M.W. 500-5000 with a molar excess of an organic diisocyanate and reacting at 0-100 DEG C. the -NCO terminated prepolymer thus obtained either in the melt or in an inert organic solvent with 80-130% of the stoichiometric amount of a chain extender of M.W. below 1000 of formula NH2NHCO-X-(CH2)n-Y-(CH2)n-A where A is an -OH group, -NH2 or -XCONHNH2, where X is oxygen, the -NH group, the group or merely a linkage, Y is a bifunctional radical obtained by removing the hydrogen atoms from the N atoms of piperazine or an alkylpiperazine or Y is the radical or the radical in which R is a lower alkyl group, R1 is phenylene, cyclohexylene, or xylylene, Z is an aromatic bifunctional radical and n is an integer from 1 to 6. In a typical example, the prepolymer is formed from a polyester from adipic acid, hexanediol and 2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diol, and diphenylmethane-4,41-di-isocyanate. It is reacted with N-methylamine-bis-(propionic acid dihydrazide) and p-xylylene diamine in dimethylformamide. A smoothly flowing solution is obtained by addition of a 33% rutile paste and small amounts of hexane-1,1-diisocyanate and n-butyl isocyanate. Filaments of the elastomers may be spun by the wet or dry process, or films may be formed.
