Abstract:
Fine-crystalline cast charges with an unoriented crystal structure of TNT or explosive charges containing TNT are obtained by adding 2,2'',4,4'', 6, 6''-hexanitrostilbene to the melt from which the cast charge is made.

[Also in Division C2] Cast charges of TNT or explosives containing TNT are produced in the form of small randomly arranged crystals by adding hexanitrostilbene to the melt from which the cast charge is made. The TNT and the additive may be stirred together at 95-100‹ C., allowed to set, and then remelted at just below 85‹ C. Other nitro compounds may be added, for example mono- and di-nitrotoluenes, trinitrobenzene, tetryl, nitronaphthalenes, nitrophenols, trinitrophenyl ethanol, hexanitrobibenzyl, and dipicryl sulphide. Examples 1 and 2 describe the addition of 1% and 0À3% of the additive to TNT. In Example 3, trinitrobenzene is also added and an explosive composition is formed by mixing the granulated product with hexogen and wax.
