Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a blade tensioner, having the action of providing continuous tension to a chain. SOLUTION: The blade tensioner, having a tension arm 18 with an end 22, a face 30 fixed on the tension arm 18 with the extending part longer than the end 22, and a blade spring 36 fixed on the tension arm 18 with the extending part longer than the end 22 and compressing the face 30 to a chain 16. When the chain 16 wears out and loosens, the face 30 maintains compression to the chain 16, by curving the both extending parts longer than the end 22 of the face 30 and the blade spring 36 along the tension arm 18, and the compression of the blade spring 36 provides the chain 16 with continuous tension.

The pressure driving means comprises retard pressure supplying means 34, 46, and 52 for supplying fluid to the chamber 24R, retard pressure discharging means 50, 44, 64, 180, and 32 for discharging fluid from the chamber 24A, advance pressure supplying means 34, 44, and 50 for supplying fluid to the chamber 24A, and advance pressure discharging means 52, 46, 66, 180, and 32 for discharging fluid from the chamber 24R.

Abstract: A hydraulic tensioner (100) is designed for low cost and ease of manufacturing. A housing (102) has a bore (104) and a sleeve member (105) received within the bore. A piston (130) is slidably received within the sleeve member, forming a high pressure fluid chamber (180) with the sleeve member. The housing can be constructed of inexpensive materials such as aluminum or plastic. The piston and sleeve member are constructed of drawn metal. The housing may be formed by injection molding. The sleeve member and other components of the tensioner may be assembled within the tensioner by inserting them into the mold during the injection molding process.
