    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable cam shaft timing phase shifter comprising a lock pin to which an engine oil is directly supplied without being passed through a valve.
    SOLUTION: This variable cam shaft timing phase shifter comprises a rotor 304 connected to a cam shaft 26 coaxially mounted in a housing, rotatably to change an angular position to the housing, the lock pin 300 being slidably mounted in a radial hole of the rotor, and selectively located at a locking position where its tapered end part is engaged with a tapered recessed part of the housing to lock the relative angular position of the rotor and the housing, and an unlocking position where the tapered end part is not engaged with the tapered recessed part, a spring 302 for energizing the lock pin 300 in the radial hole toward the locking position, and an oil passage 110 directly connected to the supply of the engine oil for making the engine oil not affected by the valve, directly affect the lock pin to move the lock pin to the unlocking position.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce oil leakage of the phase regulator in its operation.

    SOLUTION: The variable cam timing phase shifter comprises a rotor 1 connected to a cam shaft 9, a spool valve 109 having a spool 104 slidable in the rotor 1, and a re-circulation check valve 302 provided in a return passage 304. A vane 16 of the rotor 1 divides a chamber formed between a housing and the rotor into an advance chamber 17a and a retard chamber 17b. When the spool 104 is at the retard position, working fluid flows only in the return passage 304 from the advance chamber 17a through an advance exhaust passage 106. When the spool 104 is at the advance position, the re-circulation check valve 302 is disposed so that the working fluid flows only in the return passage 304 from the retard chamber 17b through the retard exhaust passage 107.
