Abstract:
The present invention includes a safety apparatus and method for protecting users during maintenance operations for a rotorcraft (100) comprising: at least one permanent, semi-permanent, or detachable safety bar, strap (120a, 120b), fastener, hook, or loop that is attached or attachable to a rotorcraft (100), wherein the safety bar, strap (120a, 120b), fastener, hook, or loop is positioned in an area or surface between a windshield of the rotorcraft (100) and a tail boom (108) of the rotorcraft (100) and is connectable to a user safety device to provide fall protection from the area or surface.
Abstract:
A method for determining a shear property of a sample (108; 410; 412; 430; 440; 450; 460) includes supporting a sample (108, 400, 410, 412, 430, 440, 450, 460) at three or more separate support locations about a periphery of a first surface (110) of the sample (108, 400, 410, 412, 430, 440, 450, 460) in a testing fixture, the sample (108, 400, 410, 412, 430, 440, 450, 460) including a second surface (112) separated from the first surface (110) by a thickness (114), wherein the sample (108, 400, 410, 412, 430, 440, 450, 460) is axisymmetric about an axis that is orthogonal to the first surface (110). The method includes applying a load on the second surface (112) of the sample (108, 400, 410, 412, 430, 440, 450, 460) with a load applicator (104) in a direction substantially parallel with the axis, measuring, with a controller (106), shear testing data of the sample (108, 400, 410, 412, 430, 440, 450, 460) in response to applying the load, and determining, with the controller (106), a shear property of the sample (108, 400, 410, 412, 430, 440, 450, 460) from the measured shear testing data.
