Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron source substrate and its manufacturing method with degradation prevented of electron emission characteristics of an electron emission element due to diffusion of wiring metal through an element electrode to conductive thin films, and an image forming device by the use of the electron source substrate. SOLUTION: With the electron source substrate with an electron emission element having an electron-emitting part each formed on a pair of element electrodes connected to metal wiring, the element electrodes are all or partly made of a heat-resistant alloy, and that, standard electrode potential of elements constituting the heat-resistant alloy is lower than that of elements constituting the metal wiring.

SOLUTION: This image display device is equipped with an enclosure 5, made up of members including a first substrate 1 and a second substrate 6 spaced therefrom, electron sources disposed on the first substrate 1 in the enclosure 5, and a phosphor film 7 and an acceleration electrode 8, disposed on the second substrate 6. First getters 9 are disposed inside an image displaying area X in the enclosure 5, and second getters 14 insulated from the electron sources and from the acceleration electrode are disposed so as to surround the first getters 9.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a wiring metal from degradation and variation in an electron emission characteristic of its electron emission device due to its diffu sion into a conductive thin film without contacting to the conductive thin film. SOLUTION: The image generator is provided with an electron emission device 11 containing a pair of electrodes 2/3 located via a sodium diffusion control layer 9 and wires 6/7 respectively-connected with the electrodes 2/3 on its basic substance 1. At least part of the component for these electrodes 2/3 is made of a noble metallic element having its own standard single electrode potential lower than that of the component forming the wires 6/7, while the wires 6/7 are composed of either any one of metals such as Ag, Cu, Au or any alloy containing any one of these metals. Additionally the conductive thin film 4 containing an electron emitting section 5 is composed of either Pd, PdO, or a mixture of these elements.

The adhesive is selected from organic adhesives containing a polyphenyl compound, a polybenzimidazole resin, a polyimide resin or the like, inorganic adhesives containing alumina, silica, zirconia or carbon, or the like.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emission element, capable of maintaining excellent electron emitting characteristics and high luminance over a long time, and a manufacturing method for it. SOLUTION: After element electrodes 2, 3 and a conductive film 4 are formed on a base 1, a coated layer 6 of nickel, cobalt, iron or an oxide of either one of them is formed on the conductive film 4, and thereafter an electron emission part 5 is formed. An activating treatment is then applied to it, and graphite carbon having high orientation property and high crystalline property is deposited on the electron emission part 5 or in its vicinity.
