Abstract:
In order to integrally manage computers and peripheral devices at a user site, when a device monitoring server (203a) receives a trouble message from a device, it sends a message indicating this to a device center server (210) via a router (204). If the received message is a trouble message, the device center server (210) controls an event adapter to convert the received message into a format that a center server can process, and transfers the converted message to the center server (110). Upon receiving the message, the center server (110) displays occurrence of a trouble in an event list using an event monitor (110a). The user can simultaneously monitor the versatile computers and peripheral devices by observing the event monitor.
Abstract:
An equipment control unit is composed of storage means for storing a control data for controlling an equipment, control means for controlling the equipment based on the control data stored in the storage means, and communication means for communicating with a centralized control system for making the centralized control for a plurality of equipments. The control means rewrites the control data stored in the storage means with a received control data when it receives the control data from the centralized control system.
Abstract:
A quinoxaline compound of the formula (I) according to Claim 1 characterized by having at least one quinoxaline-2,6 (or 2,7)-diyl group is suitable as a component for a liquid crystal composition providing improved response characteristics and a high contrast. A liquid crystal device is constituted by disposing the liquid crystal composition between a pair of electrode plates. The liquid crystal device is used as a display panel constituting a display apparatus providing good display characteristics.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal device is constituted by a pair of transparent substrates each having thereon a transparent electrode, and a chiral smectic liquid crystal composition lacking cholesteric phase disposed between the substrates so as to assume at least two optically stable states. At least one of the substrates is provided with an alignment film which comprises a polyimide represented by a recurring unit of formula (I) shown below and has been subjected to a uniaxial aligning treatment. wherein A denotes a tetravalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group free from a planar structure or a tetravalent alicyclic hydrocarbon group, and n is an integer of at least 1. The chiral smectic liquid crystal composition may preferably contain at least one species of fluorine-containing mesomorphic compound comprising a fluorocarbon terminal portion and a hydrocarbon terminal portion connected with a central core and having a smectic phase or a latent smectic phase.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal composition includes a liquid crystal containing at least one mesomorphic compound having a cholesteric phase (Ch phase)-free mesomorphic phase, and at least one compound (e) having a limit of solubility in the liquid crystal and being contained in the composition in a proportion ranging from 20 % of the limit of solubility to below the limit of solubility. The liquid crystal composition may preferably include the liquid crystal containing at least one fluorine-containing mesomorphic compound (a) having a fluorocarbon terminal portion and a hydrocarbon terminal portion, and at least one achiral compound (b), a the compound (e), having a specific ring structure and a specific terminal alkyl group free from a perfluorocarbon atom. The compound having a Ch phase-free mesomorphic phase, preferably the compound (a), and the compound (e), preferably the compound (b) are effective in providing the liquid crystal composition with a layer structure of so-called bookshelf or a layer structure having a small inclination angle (closer to bookshelf structure). The liquid crystal composition is useful in improving response characteristics and display characteristics, particularly a contrast ratio, of a liquid crystal device using the liquid crystal composition.

Abstract:
A fluoroalkane derivative represented by the formula: wherein R denotes an alkyl group having 1 - 16 carbon atoms, C* denotes an asymmetric carbon atom, R 1 denotes an alkyl or alkoxy group having 1 - 16 carbon atoms; respectively denote a phenylene group , a cyclohexylene group or a pyrimidinylene group ; p is 0 or 1 , q is 0 or 1 when p is 1, r. is 0 or 1; and l, m and n are respectively 0 or a positive integer satisfying the relationship of 1+m+n ~ 1. The fluoroalkane derivative has a fluorine atom providing a large dipole moment and directly connected to an asymmetric carbon atom, so that it provides a high speed responsive characteristic through an increased spontaneous polarization when contained in a liquid crystal composition, especially a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition.
