Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedestrian guidance system capable of determining the current position of a pedestrian and providing appropriate route guidance matching the position. SOLUTION: A special pattern 11b showing position information is disposed on a plurality of guide blocks 11 positioned on a road or the like. A pedestrian is given a cane 12 with a camera 13. For every guide block 11 that the pedestrian passes during walking, the pattern 11b is read by the camera 13 and its position information is sent to a server 15. The server 15 determines the current position of the pedestrian based on the position information sent from the cane 12 and sends guidance information about nearby areas. The guidance information is sent to the pedestrian's earphones 16 and outputted as voice. Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce the arithmetic quantity of DCT not less than two-dimension. CONSTITUTION: The vertically consecutive arithmetic of butterfly arithmetic to each row and each column in the input matrix of two-rows and two-columns is executed like the next. First of all, a diagonal data adding and subtracting part 505 calculates the sum of the two element values and difference between them with respect to each pair of two element values in each diagonal direction in the input matrix to calculate the first intermediate matrix of the two-rows and two-columns. Next, a butterfly arithmetic part 504 respectively executes butterfly arithmetic with respect to each pair of the two element values of each row, e.g. in the first intermediate matrix to calculate a second intermediate matrix. In addition, the diagonal data adding and subtracting part 505 calculates the sum of the two element values and difference between them with respect to each pair of the two element values in each diagonal direction in the second intermediate matrix to calculate the output matrix of the two-rows and two- columns. At last, a one-bit right shift part 506 executes one-bit right shift arithmetic with respect to each element value of the output matrix to make each element value 1/2.

In that case, when it is made sure that the pedestrian is within a zone for the selection of a destination, a destination that can be selected within the zone is guided; when the destination is selected, route guidance to the selected destination is provided. Guidance information is sent to the pedestrian's earphones 16 and outputted as voice so that the pedestrian can go to the desired destination according to the guidance information. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high speed image pickup device in which a high speed image pickup is conducted with a simple and an inexpensive circuit configuration. SOLUTION: A control section 6 scans elements arranged on a CCD(charge coupled device) 2 based on horizontal register clock signals H1-H2 and vertical register clock signals ϕV1-ϕV4 supplied from a CG(clock generator) 4 and a V driver 5, fetches part of a picked-up video image and a video signal of the same field continuously and they are stored in an IC memory 7. An inter- frame coding section 8 compresses video data stored in the IC memory 7 and stores the compressed data again to the IC memory 7. In the case of reproduction, the video data stored in the IC memory 7 are read out and displayed on displayed parts divided into a plurality of areas in time series and updated in real time. Furthermore, a voice signal attended with the video data is reproduced in real time as conventionally.

The timing control part 41 controls the optical path switch 11 so that incident light enter the image pickup element 12 as it is with a first timing, enter the element 12 by shifting horizontally and vertically by respectively one pixel interval with a second timing, enter the element 12 by shifting vertically by one pixel interval with a third timing and enter the element 12 by shifting horizontally by one pixel interval with a fourth timing. The data processing part 49 obtains the color and the intensity of incident light from data obtained with the first to fourth timings.

Therefore, both the eyes need not be covered entirely unlike before and while the device is reducible in size, the device can easily be fitted to the spectacles, so that the device is good in portability and easily used.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the picture quality on a part with high frequency component from being deteriorated by detecting the picture edge part with the calculation of the activity of the picture information and performing DCT processing after smoothing the entire part while reducing the amplitude on this part. CONSTITUTION:A picture memory 1 stores the picture data to be encoded, the data is successively read out to be divided into 8X8 picture element blocks in a preprocessing part 2 and made into DCT in a DCT part 3. A quantization part 4 quantizes the blocks which are made into DCT by a quantization table 41, transfers the quantization data to an encoding part 5, encodes the frequency component of the quantization data and block terminal position information. In the preprocessing part 2, an activity detection part 22 detects the rise and fall of the activity. A classification part 23 separates the edge, part by the rise and fall of the activity. In an average value calculation part 24, an average value between the points with high and low activities is obtained to calculate the center of the amplitude. In an amplitude compression part 25, the amplitude is compressed to the center of this amplitude, smoothing the entire part.
