Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color ink jet printer capable of reducing a quantity of ink ejected by priming in such a manner that ejection nozzles for a non-used color is capped even during the operation of printing. SOLUTION: A paper sheet 34 is inserted from a lower section to be conveyed in the left side by being attracted to a conveyance belt 35 and is reversed by a following roller 33. After that, the paper sheet 34 is printed by passing through a platen 31 to be discharged to the outside. In the case of monochrome printing, a color print head unit 22 is moved to a maintenance position at the left side by a sliding mechanism 29 and is covered with a cap member 26 for the color print head unit 22 to be stopped and then a black color print head unit 21 is positioned opposite the platen 31 to form a black color image on the paper sheet 34. During the printing, the priming of the color print head unit 22 is not executed. In the case of color printing, the black color print head 21 and the color print head unit 22 are supported by head unit holders 23, 24 to be positioned opposite the platen 31 and then a full-color image is formed on the paper sheet 34 by inks of yellow, cyan, magenta and black colors ejected from the print heads.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer suitable for line printer employing a long print head in which waste ink produced through priming can be collected efficiently through a convenient mechanism and reused. SOLUTION: (a) The opening 35 of a guide plate 34 is closed by a platen plate 55 at the time of printing, (b) the platen plate 55 moves to a retreat position (not shown) at the time of priming and four colors of ink 57 is ejected simultaneously into a cap unit 36 thus eliminating clogging. (c) A cleaning blade 54 in horizontal attitude enters a work area from a home position below the right end of the guide plate 34 and turns by 90 deg. to take a vertical attitude. (d) The cleaning blade 54 slides to the left end part and wipes off the ink ejection face 56 of a head unit 30 at the upper end part thereof, and wipes off the bottom face of the cap unit 36 at the lower end part thereof thus scraping up primed standing ink 57-1 to the part arranged with a collection pipe 39. The priming ink is sucked by a collection pump through the collection pipe 39 and fed to a recycle ink tank.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of performing maintenance work even with respect to a printing head having long constitution for a short time by a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: At a time of non-printing, a printing head 28 is hermetically sealed from the open air by the cap 42 of a rotary body 25. In starting printing, at first, a head unit 24 is slightly moved in an upward direction and the rotary body 25 is rotated clockwise at the same time to clean the nozzle arranging surface of the printing head 28 by a cleaning blade 44 integrated with the rotary body 25. The rotary body 25 is further rotated and the opening 43-1 of the slot 43 formed thereto is stopped at the position opposed to the nozzle surface of the printing head 28. Herein, the printing head 28 carries out priming and all of emitted ink 46 passes through the slot 43 to be absorbed by a waste ink absorbing member 26. The rotary body 25 is further rotated and a platen part 41 is arranged at a paper support position and the head unit 24 having retreated upwardly falls to approach the platen part 41 in opposed relationship to form a printing state.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer which has an ink cartridge of a large capacity although it is thin and smoothly supplies ink to a printing head. SOLUTION: When a cartridge holder 23 is turned up at a fulcrum of a hinge 42, a paper carry-in tray freed from pressing has a hinge part 36 urged upward by a spring not shown, whereby a first inclined face 28a and a second inclined face 28b are turned straight to form a plane between a pin 37 and a hinge 41. As a result, a paper carry-in path of a height corresponding to several tens of sheets is formed to a storage space where an ink cartridge part has been present before the cartridge holder is turned. Moreover, an ink cartridge 24 is raised obliquely with a coupled part to a male type coupling tube 26 directed down, whereby an ink 34 inside the cartridge gathers because of its weight to a lower part of a tank. Accordingly, a paper 43 can be easily supplied to the paper carry-in path and the ink 34 can be efficiently supplied to a sub tank 25, namely, a printing head 22 because of a height difference generated to upper and lower faces of the ink 34.

The ink droplet is ejected from the ejection nozzle 16 to a surface of a recording paper to form one dot thereon. In the case where plural sets of the common electrode 7a, cutting electrode 7b and accelerating electrode 7c are juxtaposed in the direction Y (paper width direction), it is possible to constitute a print head capable of printing a plurality of dots at the same time.
