Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the total frequency of access to a memory and its necessary time and then make the system fast by increasing the number of pixels which are plotted by single access. SOLUTION: A polygon plotting command refers to specific information regarding a polygon to be plotted (301) and determines XY high-speed memory segment size (303). Namely, the use efficiency of a high-speed memory is optimized, a part where a polygon is present is plotted by using high-speed sequential access, and a pixel write mask is used to determine which pixel is displayed on the screen of a display device by writing it in a pixel grid or frame buffer from the high-speed sequential access memory. Right after the segment size is determined, a segment is written in a high-speed sequential memory such as an SRAM and the segment is stored (305 and 307). Then it is decided whether or not polygon plotting corresponding to a polygon plotting command is completed (309).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make logic simple and enable fast interpolation by providing a polygon state machine which loads and selects initial values as to a 1st and a 2nd accumulator and a counter and increases the 1st and 2nd accumulators and counter. SOLUTION: The polygon state machine 350 asserts an LD signal and a MAIN signal and then starts polygon rendering operation. Multiplexers 315 and 365 select initial main values in response and they are loaded to the counter 320 and accumulators 340 and 360 together with the initial values. Then an increment signal is generated by the machine 350 and COUNT0 is counted down to zero. Each time an increment is given, an X value and a width value are generated by the accumulators 340 and 360 as to each scan line in the upper half of the polygon. When COUNT0 reaches zero, a COUNT1 value is inspected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exclude an unnecessary parameter from consideration while rendering primitive by listing only values necessary for rendering primitive regulated by operation codes in a display list. SOLUTION: A software driver calculates and loads the main and orthogonal gradient, the starting and stopping values of the pixel position, the intensity, the depth and the transparency of an object. The software driver generating arithmetic code instruction regulating the type of primitive to be rendered is loaded from a permanent magnetic storage device to a system memory 75 and executed by a host processor 50. The display list supplied by the host processor 50 is housed in the memory 75 until it is requested by the processor 100.
