Abstract: 1461235 Automatic current control COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CIT-ALCATEL 23 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 2933/75 Heading G3R A series transistor current regulator includes a current sensing resistor and a constant voltage diode supplied with stabilized current from a resistor network. The diode is connected to the base of the series transistor through the basecollector path of a second transistor and a second constant voltage diode. The base-emitter junction of a third transistor is connected across the series connection of the current sensing resistor and the first diode. As shown, a two-terminal network 2 is connected between a D.C. source 1 and a resistive load 3 in a repeatered telecommunications line. The current is sensed by a resistor 5, the potential across which controls the conductivity of a transistor 12, which in turn controls series transistor 4. A reference potential is provided by a Zener diode 10 which receives a constant current supply from a transistor 9, resistors 7, 11, 13, 14 and a second Zener diode 8. A parallel resistor 6 limits the power dissipated in the series transistor 4, and a pair of Zener diodes 17, 18 limit the total voltage across the network 2. Diodes 15, 16 provide temperature compensation. If a high supply voltage and/or low resistance load are used, several networks of the illustrated.type may be connected in series.

Abstract: The circuit provides protection for leads which are balanced about a potential referenced to earth. The circuit normally is required when the load impedance to earth varies due to component failure. The circuit is connected in parallel across the load d. c. supply (1, 2) and consists of a zener diode (11) and power transistor (3) in series between the positive and negative supply rails. The transistor is driven from an amplifying transistor (4) both being connected as a Darlington pair. The Darlington pair is controlled from a pilot circuit sensitive to both positive and negative rail variations about earh (6). Variations are detected on two Zener diodes (5, 8) whose common point is grounded, the remainder of the chain consisting of a transistor-resistor-diode combination between the two supply rails.

Abstract: An auxiliary load is connected in series with the output from a current regulator in order to protect the regulator from damage due to short circuit load conditions. The auxiliary load impedance is varied depending on the regulator terminal voltage. A current regulator (1) with zener diode (2) protection against over voltage conditions is connected via diodes (10) in series with an auxiliary load impedance comprising a resistor (5) in parallel with the collector emitter impedance of a transistor (6). The voltage drop across the diodes powers a driver circuit for the transistor. This circuit comprises a comparator (9) followed by a preamplifier (8) and an amplifying (7) stage which is Darlington connected to the variable impedance transistor. Adjustable resistor (17) permits setting of the voltage level at which circuit operates.
