Abstract: A lathe has a bedplate to which is mounted a lathe bed defining first and second slideways and a fixed headstock holding a rotatable spindle. A movable tailstock slides on at least one of the slideways such that the spindle axis lies in a first plane and the first and second slideways lie in a common second plane perpendicular to the first plane and equally spaced therefrom.
