Abstract:
A light filtering assembly comprises an input section, a filtering section, and an output section. The input section divides the input beam into a plurality of polarized monochromatic beamlets that travel along a corresponding plurality of spatially separated beam paths by means of a polarization converter and a diffraction grating. The polarized monochromatic beamlets comprise a plurality of desired beamlets corresponding to the desired wavelength components of the input beam. The filtering section passes the disered beamlets blocks the unwanted beamlets. The output section combines the desired beamlets so as to form the output beam. Because the beamlets are linearly polarized, the input and output section are able to realize a high throughput efficiency.

Abstract:
A wavelength division demultiplexer includes a channel dropping component for receiving optical signals transmitted through a plurality of optical channels, defined by successively different light wavelength bands at intervals ranging between a first channel having the lowest wavelength band to a last channel having the highest wavelength band. The channel dropping component separates at least one channel having a wavelength band intermediate the lowest wavelength band and the highest wavelength band. The demultiplexer further includes an edge filter for separating optical signals received from the channel dropping component that have wavelengths below the intermediate wavelength band from optical signals having wavelengths above the intermediate wavelength band. The separated optical signals are transmitted from the edge filter in two different optical paths. The demultiplexer further includes a channel separator for separating optical signals transmitted in at least one of the optical paths from one another.

Abstract:
Described herein are various antimicrobial glass articles that have improved strength and resistance to discoloration. The improved antimicrobial glass articles described herein generally include a glass substrate with a compressive stress layer and an antimicrobial silver-containing region that each extend inward from a surface of the glass substrate to a specific depth. In some embodiments, the compressive stress layer has a compressive stress at the surface of about 500 MPa or greater and the compressive stress decreases monotonically from the surface into the depth of the glass substrate. Methods of making and using the glass articles are also described and include forming a compressive stress layer and forming an antimicrobial silver-containing region by preferentially exchanging a plurality of silver cations in a silver-containing medium for a specific plurality of first cations ions in the glass substrate.
