    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a metal surface against detrimental effects of carburization in an extremely corrosive atmosphere and high temperatures that are involved in a chemical manufacturing process.SOLUTION: Coating composed of essentially KO, SiO, and AlO, having a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of at least 80x10/°C is applied to a metal surface to isolate the metal surface that attracts carbon particles in a chemical manufacturing process. The coating is composed of a ceramic having a predominant leucite crystalline phase and formed in-situ on the metal surface from reactions involving a glass.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sealing frit capable of forming a seal at a medium temperature range and having high distortion point/high CTE by including SiO2, Al2O3, Li2O, Na2O, K2O, ZnO, BaO, TiO2 and ZrO2 at specific ratios. SOLUTION: The objective sealing frit is produced by compounding 50-70 wt.%, preferably 55-65 wt.% of SiO2, 0-5 wt.%, preferably 0-3 wt.% of Al2O3, 0-6 wt.%, preferably 0-4 wt.% of Li2O, 2-10 wt.%, preferably 2-8 wt.% of Na2O, 5-15 wt.%, preferably 6-12 wt.% of K2O, 0-10 wt.%, preferably 0-5 wt.% of BaO, 10-25 wt.%, preferably 15-20 wt.% of ZnO, 0-5 wt.% of TiO2, 0-10 wt.%, preferably 0-6 wt.% of ZrO2 and optionally a crystallizing agent selected from TiO2, ZrO2 and ZrSiO4. The obtained sealing frit can form a seal at a medium temperature range of 600-1000 deg.C.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a glass composition that can be used to make glass frits suitable for use in the manufacturing of microreactors. The glass compositions, after final sintering to produce a finished microreactor, have a surface crystalline layer of 30 µm or less, or are completely amorphous throughout. Generally, the borosilicate glasses of the invention have a composition of B 2 O 3 = 12 - 22 mol %; SiO 2 = 68 - 80 mol % and additional components selected from the group consisting of either (a) Al 2 O 3 = 3- 8 mol % and Li 2 O = 1 - 8 mol %, or (b) K 2 O = 0 - 2 mol % and Na 2 O = 0 - 2 mol %, except that both K 2 O and Na 2 O cannot both equal zero at the same time. One borosilicate glass has a composition, in mole percent (mol%) of B 2 O 3 = 18 - 22 mol %, SkiO 2 = 75 - 80 mol %, K 2 O = 0 - 2 mol %, and Na 2 O = 0 - 2 mol %, except that both K 2 O and Na 2 O cannot both equal zero at the same time.
