Abstract:
The suspended solids content of a process stream in a process for digesting bauxite ore to produce alumina is reduced by contacting the stream with silicon- containing polymers.
Abstract:
A method to inhibit autoprecipitation of aluminum containing compounds in a Bayer process liquor includes adding an effective amount of a polysaccharide to the Bayer process liquor. Polysaccharides which are added in accordance with the present method selected from gum arahic, tamarind gum, gum ghatti and mixtures thereof. Effective addition sites for the autoprecipitation inhibitor are prior to filtering clarified process liquor and subsequent to condensation of caustic soda from spent process liquor.
Abstract:
Methods for the purification of sugar solutions using hydrolyzed polyacrylamides as flocculants are herein described. The hydrolyzed polyacrylamides are prepared from emulsion or microemulson polymerization of acrylamide monomer, and subsequently hydrolyzed to a degree of hydrolysis of about 10 to about 50 mole %. The hydrolyzed polyacrylamides have a molecular weight of at least about 10,000,000.
