    Abstract: A fatty acid ester of cellulose excellent in transparency, filterability and spinnability in spite of its high content of mannose and xylose, wherein the total molar content of mannose and xylose accounts for at least 7% of that of glucose, mannose and xylose, and the amount of filtration satisfies a specified requirement. Such a fatty acid ester of cellulose is prepared by using a pulp having a low alpha -cellulose content as a raw material and a fatty acid corresponding to the ester as a diluent and adding an organic solvent in an amount of at least 10% by weight based on the diluent in any step during the preparation. In the preparation of cellulose diacetate, which is excellent in filterability and transparency, by the acetic acid process, the cellulose diacetate obtained by aging is dissolved in a solvent which can dissolve it and the resulting cellulose diacetate is recovered.

    Abstract: A process for producing cellulose acetate from a hard, low-grade pulp sheet having a high sheet density on an industrial scale without impairing the acetylation reactivity of the pulp, characterized in that a pulp sheet having a sheet density of at least 0.5 g/cm3 is used as the cellulose material and the pulp sheet is disintegrated while feeding less than 40 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight (in terms of oven-dry weight) of the pulp sheet, of water into the disintegrating section of a disintegrator in the step of disintegrating the material. The present process is economically advantageous because the drying and humidity controlling steps are simplified due to the quantity of water to be fed being small.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a termite repellent having low toxicity with no fear of environmental pollution, having excellent penetration and adsorption in treating wood, etc., capable of sustaining the effects, comprising quaternary ammonium salt of alginic acid as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A termite expellent comprising quaternary ammonium salt of alginic acid, for example, obtained by reacting sodium alginate with a quaternary ammonium salt halide as an active ingredient. The quaternary ammonium salt of alginic acid is dissolved in a lower alcohol such as methanol, ethanol, in 0.1-25wt.% concentration and used. The active ingredient is made into a film on the surface or the surface layer of wood and fixed. Since the film is water-insoluble, it will not flow and since the quaternary ammonium salt has alginic acid as skeleton, it has hydrophilic nature and affinity for wood.

Thus is obtd. cellulose diacetate excellent in filtrability without removing hemicellulose contained in it.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce fine globular cellulose particles which can satisfy both separation performance and flow velocity properties by a allowing a specific crosslinking agent to be present when fine globular cellulose triacetate particles are subjected to alkali hydrolysis. CONSTITUTION:When fine globular cellulose triacetate particles (those having a particle size of 10-500mu is preferred, especially preference being given to those having a uniform network structure) are hydrolyzed with an alkali into fine globular cellulose particles, a compound having 2 or more functional groups in the molecule which can produce ether linkages by the reaction with the hydroxyl groups (e.g., epichlorohydrin) is added as a crosslinking agent into the reaction system. According to the process, formation of hydrogen bonds can be inhibited, shrinkage of the cellulose which is forming can be suppressed, and therefore cellulose particles which can satisfy both separation performance and flow velocity properties can be obtained. Further, by controlling the concentration of the alkali in the system, crosslinking can be effected under various swelling conditions to control the properties of cellulose particles that will be produced.
