Abstract: A fatty acid ester of cellulose excellent in transparency, filterability and spinnability in spite of its high content of mannose and xylose, wherein the total molar content of mannose and xylose accounts for at least 7% of that of glucose, mannose and xylose, and the amount of filtration satisfies a specified requirement. Such a fatty acid ester of cellulose is prepared by using a pulp having a low alpha -cellulose content as a raw material and a fatty acid corresponding to the ester as a diluent and adding an organic solvent in an amount of at least 10% by weight based on the diluent in any step during the preparation. In the preparation of cellulose diacetate, which is excellent in filterability and transparency, by the acetic acid process, the cellulose diacetate obtained by aging is dissolved in a solvent which can dissolve it and the resulting cellulose diacetate is recovered.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject ester having good transparency, filtrability, and spinnability from a low-grade pulp having a low alpha-cellulose content by adding an org. solvent to the reactional system in the process for producing the ester using a fatty acid as a diluent. CONSTITUTION:An org. solvent is added in an amt. of at least 10wt.% based on a diluent to the reactional system at any stage of the process for producing the subject ester from pump having a low alpha-cellulose content using a fatty acid for esterification as the diluent. Thus is obtd. a fatty-acid triester of cellulose which has a molar ratio of the sum of the mannose and xylose units to that of the glucose, mannose, and xylose units of 7% or higher and satisfies the relation: P2>-0.14eta+86 wherein P2 in the amt. of filtration in 40min from 20min after to 60min after the start of filtration and eta is a viscosity (cP) of a 6% soln.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce cellulose acetate having excellent filtering characteristics, transparency and spinnability from a low-grade pulp having an extremely low content of alpha-cellulose by specifically treating wood pulp and then reacting. CONSTITUTION:In obtaining cellulose acetate by grinding a cellulose raw material, pretreating, subjecting to an acetic ester formation reaction and hydrolyzing, when wood pulp having 85-93wt.% alpha-cellulose content is used as the cellulose raw material, 1 pt.wt. pulp is treated with 0-20 pts.wt. solution of acetic acid as pretreatment of the wood pulp and then the cellulose raw material is subjected to acetic ester formation reaction, optionally an acetylating catalyst in an amount to give 0.5-20 pts.wt. catalyst based on 100 pts.wt. pulp is added to the acetylating system. The hydrolysis is carried out by neutralizing the acetylating catalyst and introducing steam to the system under pressure at 125-170 deg.C.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively dry a cellulose membrane produced from a microorganism without breaking whole the membrane, by drying the membrane in state hung in space by an elastomer. CONSTITUTION:A cellulose membrane produced by a cellulose producing bacterium is hung in space by an elastomer, e.g. rubber or spring capable of stretching and shrinking corresponding to internal stress in the membrane occurring as the membrane is dried and dried at about 0-100 deg.C, preferably 20-60 deg.C while retaining the membrane in proper tension.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To separate and recover a cellulose produced by a bacterium capable of producing the cellulose from a culture medium in high purity and yield, by subjecting an mixture containing a bacterial cell capable of producing the cellulose and the cellulose to alkali treatment, ultrasonic treatment and then centrifugation. CONSTITUTION:A mixture containing a bacterium capable of producing a cellulose and the cellulose is treated by an alkali and then ultrasonic waves and successively centrifuged. In the above-mentioned alkali treatment, and aqueous solution of alkali such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, etc., is used in a concentration of 0.01-15wt%, preferably about 1wt%. If the alkali concentration is 15wt%, there is the possibility of causing depolymerization of the cellulose and structural change from cellulose I to cellulose II. The alkali treatment is carried out preferably at nearly ordinary temperature. As the ultrasonic waves, elastic waves whose frequency exceeds audible frequency area, preferably waves having >=10kHz frequency are used.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an inexpensive photodecomposition catalyst which is high in adsorption and separation efficiency and to efficiently execute the photodecomposition treatment of hazardous chemical components by subjecting the titanium oxide raw material composited biomass formed by compositing titanium oxide raw material with the respective parts of the cells of biomass material to a carbonization treatment by heating. SOLUTION: The titanium oxide composited biomass carbide is produced by subjecting the titanium oxide composited biomass formed by compositing the titanium oxide to the carbonization treatment by heating at >=1 point of any of the cellular wall interior, cellular lumens and cellular surfaces of the biomass material. The biomass material preferably has the many lumens of the cells capable of compositing the metal oxide, for which, for example, titanium chelate, titanium alkoxide, etc., are used. Further, the titanium oxide raw material is composited by impregnation, etc., to the biomass material. The titanium composited biomass material is heated in the absence of oxygen and is subjected to carbonization and crystallization treatment and thereafter, the biomass material is heated in the presence of the oxygen, by which the titanium oxide composited biomass carbide is obtained.
